FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my chimney swept?
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 211) recommends chimneys be inspected at least once a year, with sweeping performed as needed based on that inspection.
What's the difference between a Level 1, 2, and 3 inspection?
A Level 1 inspection covers the readily accessible portions of the chimney. A Level 2 inspection is more thorough (typically required for real estate transactions or after a chimney fire) and includes a camera scan of the flue. A Level 3 inspection is the most invasive, sometimes requiring removal of components to access concealed areas when a serious hazard is suspected.
What are signs my chimney needs repair?
Common warning signs include white staining (efflorescence) on the exterior brick, crumbling or missing mortar, cracked flue tiles, rust on the damper or firebox, and smoke entering the home instead of venting properly.
